Probe Product Corporation's HSS-10 (HIGH SPEED STRAIN GAGE) strain gaging systems provide real-time collection of data through the following types of sensors: 4-Active Arm and Half-Bridge Strain Gages, RTD (1000ohm Pt, 100ohm Pt, 10ohm Cu, SRTD) and Thermocouple sensor types E, J, K, R, S and T. A single system provides for 10 strain gage inputs, expandable to a maximum of 40 sensors on each computer. Six connections are provided for each of the 10 strain gage signal inputs. Each of the up to 40 channels may be set up differently without affecting other channels. The HSS-10 is contained on a full length IBM/PC ISA bus board. The rear connector is a 100 pin connector which connects via cable to two 50 position terminal strips. The strain gauge bridges are wired to the appropriate terminals on the terminal strips. Six signal connections are provided for each of the 10 strain gauge signal inputs. Ground terminals are also provided.
The magnitude of the excitation voltage is 10 volts. It is applied as +5 volts at Bridge Excitation Hi and -5 volts at Bridge Excitation Lo. When AC excitation is selected the excitation is applied as an alternating DC voltage (square wave). The frequency of the AC excitation is selectable from 300Hz, 600Hz or 1200Hz or for use in areas with 50Hz power the excitation frequencies are 250Hz, 500Hz or 1000Hz. Virtually any resistive bridge type sensor can be accommodated by the HSS-10. A typical strain gage will have a bridge resistance of 350 ohms and a full scale output of 30mV. All conversions are performed ratiometrically, making the HSS-10 insensitive to excitation magnitude variations. Remote excitation sensing avoids errors introduced in the excitation measurement due to IR drops in the excitation supply wires to the bridge. The signal conditioner includes digital filters to remove 50/60Hz and their harmonics from the Excitation Sense and Bridge Output signals. The signal conditioner includes provision for removal of non-ratiometric offsets in the conditioner to bridge connections. The signal conditioner also includes provision for the removal of offsets up to +/- 200% of the selected range's full scale without loss of resolution.
